Mossling Books is a small, family-hearted studio making gentle, diverse picture books that give children words for their feelings. Lexi’s World is our first series — the first of more worlds to come.

About the author

Tamsin Brightwater

The gentle voice behind Lexi’s World — picture books that tell the truth about childhood, one small, ordinary, unforgettable moment at a time.

Books made to be read slowly

Tamsin Brightwater writes for the slow minutes — the raindrop, the caterpillar, the last gold light before bed. Her Lexi’s World books are gentle, feelings-first picture books for ages 3 to 6, written to be read close and read again: the funny parts, the scary parts, the first times, and the small moments families retell for the rest of their lives.

Every story starts with a real feeling — wonder, sadness, worry, patience — and trusts the child to meet it. Nothing is rushed, nothing is fixed. The books simply sit beside big little feelings and say: this is welcome, too.

Tamsin Brightwater is the pen name of the author and art director behind Mossling Books. The name keeps the focus where it belongs — on Lexi, and on the families who read these stories at bedtime.

Why it matters

A family that looks like the real world

Lexi is a warm-brown-skinned little girl with dark curls in two high puffs, and her big sister Elyse is right beside her. They come from a loving, mixed-heritage family — and that is simply, quietly true. It lives in the pictures and in the story, never as a label or a lesson.

Every child deserves to open a book and find themselves in it — and to find children who don’t look like them, loved just as tenderly. Mossling Books is built on that belief: representation as a given, not a gesture. The diversity is real, the feelings are universal, and the magic is for everyone.

A hand-painted, honey-lit world

The Lexi’s World art has a warm, hand-made feel — a gouache-and-colored-pencil look with a soft, breathing outline, a real paper grain, and a limited, cozy palette of rooted green, honey gold, terracotta, and cream. It is finished under a human art director, so every page keeps the same tender, matte, story-time warmth.

In the spirit of honesty: the illustrations are created with generative-AI image tools and then reviewed, curated, and art-directed by a human — the same way it is noted inside each book.

“My hope is small: that one ordinary moment feels, for a second, as big as it really is.”

— Tamsin Brightwater
